Today, I was making a stew and as I was adding salt to the simmering stew, I heard a phrase in my head,
“A little heat never hurt any salt!”
I honestly have no idea where that came from. But I rarely hear myself think coherent sentences so I sat down to think about it.
There was a lot of unsettled emotions going on in my heat because of the tragic floods that swept through Accra yesterday. I figured the sentence must’ve been related in some way to what I’ve had on my mind the whole day.
At such a trying time in the country, we need strong pillars that we can rely on to give some comfort and hope. I think the phrase I heard speaks to all Christians; those who are the light and the salt of the earth to be the light and the salt of the country at this moment. Matthew 5 v13&14 admonishes us to shine in darkness and give taste to this world.
In such times, we need to do more than lament the chaos and spread terror in the form of bad news. We need to throw more light and give meaning to this circumstance we have found ourselves in. The heat is not supposed to affect us. A little heat never hurt any salt!
Personally, I’m excited to see how God is going to turn around the situation in the country for good. I cannot overemphasize how much comfort the country needs from Christians at this point in time.
2ND Corinthians 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our LordJesus Christ, the Father of sympathy (pity and mercy) and the God (Who is the Source) of every comfort (consolation and encouragement), Who comforts (consoles and encourages) us in every trouble (calamity and affliction), so that we may also be able to comfort (console and encourage) those who are in any kind of trouble or distress, with the comfort (consolation and encouragement withwhich we ourselves are comforted (consoled and encouraged) by God.
This is a calling for those of us who are connected to The Source of all comfort.
We have an anchor that keeps the soul steadfast and sure, while the bellows role. We are fastened to The Rock, which cannot move (Jesus). We are grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love.
No matter what troubles may befall us; we should KNOW that we have assurance of everything working out for our good (Rom. 8:28).
It is not enough to know and understand this. We also need to believe and receive this Word concerning our lives.
Until now, I don’t think I fully understood it. Going through struggles would have been much more easier if I had known this earlier.
